The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is an application used to apply for scholarships to study in the United States. The application can be submitted as early as October 1st.

The Foreign Fulbright Student Program provides scholarships for foreign students to study in the United States as research assistants.
The Fulbright Program offers full scholarships to international students who wish to pursue a Master’s or PhD program. The scholarships can also be awarded to non-degree postgraduate students. The grant covers tuition fee, textbooks, airfare, a living stipend, and health insurance.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program offers a year of professional enrichment in the United States for experienced professionals from designated countries all over the world.

Universities that offer scholarships for international students and military personnel are accepting applications for the 2019-2020 school year.

US Colleges and Universities that offer Scholarships

American University Scholarships

American University D.C. (AU) awards a small number of generous merit scholarships to academically qualified incoming first-year international students. International students are not eligible to receive need-based financial aid. The merit scholarship range varies from $6,000 to $25,000 per year. Renewable subject to conditions.

You may also be interested in the AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship Program which provides scholarships to outstanding international students who want to pursue a bachelor’s degree at the University and are devoted to improving undeveloped, underserved communities in their native country. It is designed for a student who will be returning to his/her home country to address inequality and improve underserved, underresourced regions.

Berea College offers scholarships.

Berea College is the only school in the United States that fully funds tuition costs for two years to all students enrolling for the first time. The combination of financial aid and scholarships covers the cost of tuition, dormitory accommodations, meals, and other charges. In later years, it is expected that international students will save $1,000 (US) annually to contribute to their expenses. During summer months, the College provides internships to international students so that they can meet their contribution obligation.

Amherst College offers scholarships.

Amherst College offers need-based financial aid to international students who qualify. To determine your financial need, simply apply and attend an orientation meeting if you are accepted. Whether you would like to work or receive a scholarship or grant, a financial assistance award that will be equal to your needs will be offered to you. This assistance may be termed an “aid package” since it could include both self-help (employment) and gift aid (scholarships and grants).

Colby-Sawyer College Scholarships

Colby-Sawyer College students are eligible for merit-based financial aid awarded by Colby-Sawyer College. The financial award amount increases with academic ability (measured in GPA) and ranges from $15,000 to $28,000 per year. The school does not fully meet financial need.

Columbia University Scholarships

Columbia University gives scholarships and awards to exceptional international students. The awards are one-time cash grants or 15-100% tuition discounts.

Clark University scholarships

Columbia University offers the Global Scholars Program to first-year applicants (not a transfer student) who have attended school abroad for at least four years and to international students currently attending university in the United States. A $15,000 to $25,000 scholarship for four years (subject to renewal) and a $2,500 taxable stipend for a paid summer internship or research assistantship taken for academic credit are included with the award.

Dartmouth College scholarships

Dartmouth College provides a diverse choice of financial aid to qualified students, including financial support for travel expenses to the United States. Dartmouth provides scholarships to international students, and it also provides loans and grants to cover the costs of tuition and housing.

Concordia College Scholarships

Concordia awards the contributions that international students make on campus and is pleased to offer partial financial assistance to international students. The International Student Scholarship is based on academic ability and family need, amounting to $28,000 per year. International Excellence Scholarships are competitive, merit-based scholarships that are awarded to transfer or first-year international students for up to four years and can reach as high as $28,000.

East Tennessee State University (ETSU)

East Tennessee State University (ETSU) offers the International Students Academic Merit Scholarship to international students seeking a graduate or undergraduate degree. The scholarship value per academic year is $12,500 for Undergraduate students and $11,500 for Graduate students.

Illinois Wesleyan University awards scholarships.

Scholarships are available to international students with outstanding academic credentials and high test scores who apply for scholarships. These awards range up to $30,000 per year and can be renewed for up to four years. In addition, two scholarships are available for full tuition per year to international students with qualifying credentials.

Center for East-West Relations

The East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowship provides funding for up to 24 months for Master’s or Doctoral degree study for graduate students from Asia, the Pacific, and the U.S. to participate in the educational and residential, as well as leadership development programs at the East-West Center while studying at the University of Kentucky.

Emory University provides a number of scholarships for undergraduate students, including the physical sciences, languages, humanities, and social sciences.
Emory College offers a limited number of need-based financial aid awards to a select group of international undergraduate students each year. Additionally, the Emory University Scholars Program awards partial to full merit-based scholarships to eligible international applicants. The deadline for the Emory Scholars Program scholarship is November 15.

Iowa State University International Merit Scholarships

International freshmen will be considered for a limited number of merit scholarships. Scholarship selection is competitive based on a holistic analysis of SAT or ACT scores and high school grades/marks. The stipends range from zero to $10,000 and may be renewed.

New York University Wagner Scholarships

In order to provide select applicants with greater financial aid, the scholarship program will award a limited number of admitted students with partial to full tuition scholarships ranging from $25,000 to $47,000. The scholarships are specific to full tuition scholarships and do not cover the registration fee.

Michigan State University International Scholarships

Michigan University offers a small number of scholarships and grants to assist deserving international students at the undergraduate and graduate level. These financial aid packages are not intended to fully fund your complete academic program at Michigan State.

Oregon State University Scholarships

The University of Oregon annually provides millions of dollars in financial aid and scholarships to international students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. One of the university’s scholarship programs is the ICSP Scholarship that awards tuition-waiver scholarships ranging from partial to full tuition for up to 15 credits per term each year. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic merit and the ability to speak to diverse audiences.

University of the West Scholarships

The University of The West awards new international students with President’s and Dean’s scholarships if they exhibit excellent academic performance and face considerable financial need. All tuition charges for those students will be waived for 7.5-15 undergraduate or 6-12 graduate semester units.

Wesleyan University scholarships to gifted overseas students.

Limited financial aid is available for foreign students, but it is awarded only to those with exceptional qualifications or who demonstrate a demonstrated need for financial assistance. The Freeman Asian Scholars Program provides full scholarships toward a bachelor’s degree at Wesleyan University for four years to 11 extremely talented Asian students.

International scholarship programs that support study in the United States

AAW International Fellowships

AAUW offers the Fulbright-Gray Fellowships for female students interested in full-time study in the United States who are not US citizens or permanent residents. The scholarships are valued at $18,000 for Master’s degrees, $20,000 for PhD programs and $30,000 for postdoctoral work.

Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarships

The Joint Japan-World Bank Graduate Program takes full responsibility for covering the tuition of students from World Bank member countries pursuing development-related studies at various universities around the world. Students can pursue degrees in 8 participating United States universities including Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Chicago, Cornell University and Columbia University.

Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship Programme

The Aga Khan Foundation awards a small number of scholarships per year to outstanding students from developing countries who have no other means of funding their postgraduate studies. The scholarships can be taken up anywhere in the world, including the United States. Scholarships are awarded on a loan basis on a 50% grant basis via a competitive application process once a year.
